How JRen Digital Started

For over 14 years I worked in commercial interior design in Melbourne, leading major projects where every millimetre, every finish and every line on a plan had to be considered. Design taught me that good systems quietly disappear into the background, while bad ones get in your way every single day.

In early 2020 I stepped away from the corporate design world to help my husband with his business. It was the right move for our family, but I quickly realised I missed creating. I missed the feeling of solving someone’s problem with a thoughtful design.

Around the same time, I went looking for a budget spreadsheet for our own household. What I found was, honestly, hard to look at. Clunky layouts, dated styling, missing features, and the kind of complexity that made you give up before you even started. I knew that if I felt that way as a designer, plenty of other people were feeling it too.

So I started slowly building. One template, then another. A budget. A debt tracker. A planner. Customers started asking for new versions, new colours, new features, and I just kept designing. Five years on, those quiet little spreadsheets have helped tens of thousands of people pay off debt, take control of their money, run their side hustles, and bring a bit of calm to their week.

When I am not designing spreadsheets, you will usually find me baking something I should not be eating, walking somewhere green, or planning the next trip.
